A classic French brioche featuring a rich, buttery dough and a delicate crumb. This traditional bread is ideal for breakfast, brunch, or as a delightful accompaniment to any meal. Ready in under 3 hours with a melt-in-your-mouth texture.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing until just combined.
  3. Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Gradually add the softened butter, one cube at a time, incorporating each cube fully before adding the next. Continue kneading until the dough is smooth and very stretchy.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1.5-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Gently deflate the dough and shape it into a loaf or individual rolls.
  7. Place the shaped dough in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F). Brush the top of the brioche with an egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp milk).
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Let cool on a wire rack before serving.
